Water Quality Testing Information

The Cornell Soil & Water Lab does not operate as a commercial water quality testing laboratory. If you are concerned about the current status of your private drinking water well, or about future impacts from natural gas development, we are providing some references below on how to get your water tested.

  • Information from Cornell Cooperative Extension on water quality standards and water testing.
  • A summary from the NYS Water Resources Institute on considerations for water testing with possible natural gas development in New York.
  • A list of commercial labs certified by the NY Department of Health to do water quality testing.

For information on the Marcellus shale and hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in general, check out this link for a list of references.
