Hi, my name is Anthony Edward Salvucci and I'm from the great state of Arizona. I attended the
University of Arizona in Tucson, where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science in 2006.
Currently, I am in my second year of studies as a M.S. student in the Soil and Water Lab at Cornell University.
My general research interests are groundwater and vadose zone hydrology, specifically in terms of pollutant and biological transport.
I am currently working on two research projects:
Predicting and Monitoring Pesticide Transport to the Groundwater at the county level in New York State.
In this ongoing multi-year project sponsored by the Department of Environmental Conservation,
we are modeling and sampling for pesticide occurrences in the groundwater for specific New York state counties.
Using a number of inputs (land use data, physical geospatial properties, pesticide reporting database, local knowledge)
and a pesticide leaching model, all integrated into GIS, we determine high vulnerability sites for pesticide leaching
to the groundwater. Household well sampling is then conducted based on the modeled pesticide leaching prediction and
the samples are analyzed for a wide spectrum of pesticides.
Effect of Biofilm-forming Properties on Salmonella Transport Through Porous Media
This project examines the role of the various biofilm-forming properties on the transport capacity of
field isolate strains of Salmonella spp through porous media. A variety of previously uncharacterized strains of Salmonella
are assayed in order to determine and characterize their ability to form biofilms. In addition, transport of the Salmonella
strains through sand columns is measured and correlated with the biofilm-forming properties.
Outside of research, I enjoy fixing and riding bicycles, vinyl records, camping, proboscis monkeys, ultimate frisbee, berlin,
robots, table tennis, Old Milwaukee, mixtapes and rope swings
