Ian Toevs

I am preparing to begin my first year at Cornell working towards a M.S. and possibly PhD. I did my undergraduate work at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. Some research interests I have developed from living in the high mountain desert of Southeastern Idaho are in groundwater and groundwater pollution. All of the farm land in Southeastern Idaho is irrigated from large underground aquifers or the Snake River so the preservation of these water sources is critical. There are many aspects involved in the preservation and conservation of a water supply but so far I have not really narrowed my focus. I will start off working on a project that involves identifying areas of groundwater that are sensitive to pesticide contamination and taking samples to be analyzed.

I enjoy many outdoor activities such as mountain biking, backpacking, camping, snowboarding. My wife Vanessa and I are very excited to explore a new area. I am a little worried about the quality of snowboarding compared to Idaho but I am sure it will be fun just the same.
